Contrary to other customer reviews, I found the unit very easy to assemble, but you do need a lot of room to do so(as the unit is ~7' tall)and you need to plan well from the start what you are going to store. I assembled my unit to hold part of an extensive DVD-only collection, and by using close shelf spacing, actually managed to surpass the unit's stated maximum 450-DVD spec by about 45 DVD cases. That's the unit's best feature, in my opinion: its economy of space. I live in an urban apartment, so the 7' of ceiling height I have, but floorspace is a different story. My configuration used only ten of the included twelve shelves, so I have two spares in the unlikely event of breakage. I also like the contemporary-industrial styling; I'm a big fan of "form follows function" and inorganic design. The sliding shelf media-retainers are pretty bad. One arrived already broken, which I didn't care about because my shelves were going to be full right from the outset, but I believe the breakage was indicative of an overall poor design. They are difficult to insert, don't hold particularly well, and it seems they could spring out spontaneously and become a projectile. Don't get me wrong, that has not happened, it's just a feeling I get. These retainers are a very small con compared to the pros. I found the unit surprisingly sturdy considering its basically spindly construction; having paid particular attention to that attribute in other reviews, I was prepared for the worst. However, the unit's individually-height-adjustable footpads make it relatively easy to achieve stability on uneven floors like mine. The unit does exhibit a certain amount of sway no matter how well braced, so I wouldn't recommend freestanding it in the middle of the floor, but if you have at least one surface butted up to a solid wall and you don't anticipate knocking into it too often, it should prove satisfactory. I did not use the included "wall braces" which consist of a short length of nylon web belting and a screw/wall anchor. I imagine they might provide some small added measure of protection if you don't live in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Unit weight ~45lb. empty. I liked this unit so much I bought a second after having my first for just a month. Highly recommended for the budget-minded with a large collection, limited space, and industrial aesthetic."..." I had used other cd/dvd storage units in the past but most of them had wooden shelves. After a bit the shelves always sagged from the weight. Metal is certainly the best way to go. This product had the metal shelves and the glass certainly makes it look nice with any furniture in any room. The only little flaw I see is that when putting in a dvd, it may not quite catch the back bottom metal piece. Although it will sit there tilted to the back more, only one of the two bottom metal rungs is supporting the weight. If the back rung was moved 1/2 inch to the front it would probably solve this minor issue. One suggestion would be some kind of a sliding tab that could be hooked onto the metal rungs. If the shelf is not full then there is a tendency for the dvd or cd's to slide to the right, slip under the top back rung and fall to the floor. Again a minor issue solved by sitting a small box with a weight in in on the shelf."..." Read more

This rack has everything I was looking for, lots of storage room, sturdy construction, and nice looks. I have over 800+ DVD's and this rack fits them perfectly. It doesn't waste any space with "dead air" between shelves either. Putting it together was easy once you get the hang of it. The only down side was there wasn't any instructions just a couple of pictures of how it goes together. But it's not that hard, I'm not a handyman of any kind and I was fine with it. It even came with extra screws and bolts ect. If you are looking at this rack for storing DVD's I would highly recomend it. However, if you are storing CD's or anything else, just be advised that the shelves are not adjustable so you might get "dead air" between the shelves."..." Read more

I got one for CDs and 2 for DVDs, and they hold a lot of both, but with DVDs, I get 5 rows and then the bottom is too short for 1 more row unless you lay them down on the front edge, but I like to see the titles. As for CDs, I get 8 complete rows with almost no wasted space. As my collection grows, I would certainly buy more of them. Ideally, you want a CD to fit just perfectly on a shelf with enough room to fit your finger in at the top to get them out, and them make it so your shelves come out perfectly. With DVDs its a little trickier, since some DVDs have bigger packaging (usually collections). All in all they are great shelves and very versatile."..." Read more
