These shelves can hold quite a lot of stuff. I bought two of these shelves and loaded up my CD collection (currently over 600 CDs) onto them. This left me three shelves for DVDs and one for comic books. Yes, surprisingly this storage rack works great for graphic novels, with the books only sticking out from the shelves about an inch or so. One downside is that you are somewhat limited to shelf placement around the middle shelf (which is unmoving and is for support). This inconvenience prevents spacing shelves for exact DVD height for the entire unit. Another downside is that the storage rack's height goes from around standing level to the floor. Sure, this sounds great, but it is a pain having to bend over to try to thumb through CDs on your hands and knees with your face on the floor. I was originally thinking of getting a wall-mounted unit to avoid this issue and also free up some floorspace, but I figured a floor model would fit more media. My new plan is to purchase two more of this model. I'll fill up the top halves of them with CDs. Then I'll clutter the bottom halves with DVD collections and graphic novels...as these are thicker media that are easier to see and grab on lower shelves. I ordered 2 of these pedestals to hide an evergrowing CD collection that my husband and I have been amassing. We could never seem to find an attractive, neat solution to the hideous wire CD racks that were cluttering the living room and constantly gathering dust. Until we found this beauty. The CD pedestals were well packed and came fully assembled. All we had to do was insert the shelf pins (all included in the packaging) and the shelves and we were done. The pedestals are sturdy and well made. They take up little room and inside there is a wealth of storage where we were able to store all of our CD collection. Highly recommend!"..."  Read more

This is easily one of the most affordable multimedia stands available. It's fairly easy to put together, and I felt comfortable enough with the quality to purchase three of them. Let me offer a few thoughts on the purchases: 1) The color is Cinnamon Cherry but actually doesn't look Cinnamon or Cherry--it looks more ebony to me. Definitely a darker shade, but still fits in well with surrounding furniture. 2) The backing for the unit is folded in thirds, so even after you unfold it, it doesn't really lie flat against the back of the unit. There are plenty of small nails/brads to keep it in place, but the creases still show. 3) I used power tools for speed in assembly, but be careful with them. The wood is mostly particle board and doesn't lend itself well to over-tightening. Also, don't make a mistake with any of the assembly steps, because reversing it could potentially damage the wood or appearance. 4) The assembled unit is very light-weight, and easy to fall over--so fill it up with media right away and it will stay in place. 5) Look at the measurements carefully, as the unit is much smaller in person, than it appears in the picture--thus, I bought 3 of them! 6) I filled mine up with Video tapes, which gave me two extra shelves per unit as spares. You'll need the extra two shelves (which are included) if you are filling yours up with only CD's, as they are much shorter. For videotapes, I filled up each unit with about 145 tapes. For videotapes, the unit will use 5 shelves, DVD's 6 shelves, and CD's 7 shelves (including base as shelf). All shelves are included, and accessory pieces are top-notch."..."  Read more

The wood is a laminate but looks very good and is solid. There are 8 shelves that rest on pegs. There are holes for the pegs all the way from top to bottom so no shortage of available shelf positions. I used 6 of them to have the correct height for 2 shelves of blu-rays and 4 shelves of dvd. I assume the 8 shelves would be about CD height if all were used. This is not an extremely deep unit and is rather tall so it is top and front heavy. It will tip over on carpet with the doors open in some cases unless anchored. It would probably be ok on hardwood with some weight in it. I had to use screws from a jar to anchor to the wall as it did not come with any for that purpose. Over all I am happy with the unit but in my opinion it would have been better an inch or two deeper, wider and shorter so it would be more stable on carpet."..."  Read more
