There are several things that make this product better than average and somewhat unique which is why I purchased it. Given it's large capacity, it has a narrow profile (9 inches) so it goes up against the wall and does not take up much room. Also, the sliding doors make it even easier to fit into a tight spot. It is particle board and is about as nice as you can expect given that fact. It will hold 500 CD's in standard jewel cases (250 per side, 50 on each shelf). Another nice thing is that the sliding doors can easily be removed and put back after it is assembled. This can be useful if you fill it to capacity. Why 4 stars and not 5? It only holds 320 DVDs in standard cases. However there is enough vertical room to hold more if only there were more pre-drilled holes for the shelf mounts. Using the holes provided, you can only use 3 shelves per side if you are storing DVD's. It seems that there is enough room to squeeze 4 shelves of DVD's, but drilling the holes yourself into the particle board is too risky. If you are using it for DVDs you will have 4 shelves and hardware leftover. Nevertheless, this is a great design and the trade off with the particle board is that it is very affordable. A hardwood version with more flexibility for shelf placement would make this the ultimate (and worthy of the extra cost), but it's still worth purchasing as is. Note: It may be more suited for smaller Blu Ray disc cases. I don't own enough to test it, but I would be interested to know if you can use an extra shelf on each side when storing Blu Ray discs."..." Read more
