My toddler son wanted a "big boy bed" but was not comfortable in a twin-sized bed (would not even go NEAR a bunk bed)--this bed is a great compromise, with the crib-to-twin mattress flexibility (not to mention the fun racetrack available when using only the crib mattress!)The colors are great and the styling is perfect--generic enough to fit my anti-corporate tastes and close enough to "characters" like Lightning McQueen that my son identifies with it (and so will future children who don't identify with a particular movie). the stickers allow you to customize as much or as little as you want to. We haven't put the stickers on it yet and my son doesn't seem to miss them at all. I anticipate that he will continue to like this bed even as his tastes become more "grown up" because the styling is not babyish or specific to a character he may outgrow. We complemented the bed with [...] "transportation" series of sheets, quilt, pillows, valences, curtain rods, and lamp and the room looks awesome!! He absolutely loves it.Setup was difficult--configuration of end pieces made it difficult to assemble while resting on ground, but lifting caused it to come apart--frustrating but we got it eventually. My friend has the same bed for her preschooler, and they left 2 wheels off of it--he loves pretending to put them on and take them off, like a pit crew member, and this doesn't affect the stability of the bed at all (they are just ornamental). One thing I don't like is that when using the crib mattress, there's a hard plastic "gap" all the way around the bed--but we just stuffed the gaps with blankets and also use that space for parking his "friends" (stuffed animals) and books. He actually likes to cram himself into those spaces too--probably reminds him of the closed-in safety of his crib.Overall, a great quality bed with maximum flexibility at a good price. A good value."..." Read more
