The bed was good for the price. The overall quality is good but the "slats" section is of thin, cheap quality. It would not / should not cost the manufacturer a bag-load of money to have made the slats of a better quality wood / material or even if it was the same wood but thicker. It doesn't REQUIRE a box-spring but, you'd be better-off to use one.... otherwise, with one wrong move, be prepared to eventually sleep on the floor.
