Thought of as one of the most interesting international architects of the 21st century, Peter Zumthor studied at the Schule fuer Gestaltung in Basel and at the Pratt Institute in New York before renovating various protected buildings in the canton of Graubünden. He then opened his own studio in 1979 where many of his main works came into existence including the Sogn Benedetg Chapel in Somvitg (1988), the thermal baths in Vals (1996), the Kunsthaus in Bregenz (1997) and the Swiss Pavilion at the Expo 2000 in Hanover. Zumthor incorporates his immense knowledge of materials into Modernist construction and design, exploring tactile and sensory qualities of materials and space to achieve a minimalist feel. Being traditionally made from wood, the "PZ01 BR" Wood Pepper Mill by Peter Zumthor is a sleek and elegant sculptured update to the traditional, chunky wooden mill. Its graceful line and material make it a beautiful addition for any dining setting.

Practical Beauty My wife and I find Peter Zumthor's architecture profound. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend a week enjoying the sensual, aesthetic, and visceral pleasure of his architectural creation at Vals. It is a delight to have piece at home designed by the architect, that's affordable and practical, yet like his architecture, beautiful to touch and look at. (p.s. works great as a pepper mill as well!) |
