I am very disorganized. I hate to spend time putting things away, especially if I know I'll need to take it out soon anyway. So when I got into sewing, my sewing stuff was all over the room.
Now that I have this armoire, it's much easier. I work on the foldout table; when I finish, I just push everything onto the part that stays horizontal. My serger remains on the table, I can even leave fabric half-serged. Fold down the leaflet, push in the horizontal side (with all the stuff on it) and close the doors. And I can have guests over without them seeing any of the mess.
I love the adjustable shelves, and lots of storage room. It needs a little strategy though: once the table is out, if you're sewing on one side, you would need to walk around the table to reach the other shelves. So, anything you want immediately within reach should be strategically placed.
I've also done some customization. I glued some Velcro on the doors, and added a fabric loop that holds scissors, a pin cushion, and pockets for other random things, like chalk pencils and tweezers for the serger.
So now I just open the armoire and start to serge, and have everything I need easily accessible.
The only thing to watch out for is to make sure that anything that's put on the door below the tabletop level is small enough to fit when the door is closed.
The table is large enough for comfortable sewing, but (especially since I don't want to move my serger) not large enough to do things like trace patters. For that I bought a foldable craft table.
So now I can turn my whole room into a sewing room in minutes, and comfortably sew. And then in a few minutes I can fold and hide everything away, and I have the whole room for other things.
I've had the armoire for about a month now, and I've used it heavily. I absolutely love it!"..." Read more
