If you've shopped for obelisks, it won't take long to see how expensive they can be. I purchased two of these, even after reading reviews about the assembly, because I was willing to put them together to save some money. I spend quite enough on my garden already!
The directions say to basically fit the the whole thing together before using the screws and bolts, but since the poles do not really lock together, the pieces keep falling out.
Here are a few tips I've found that helped and kept me from losing my sanity.
1) I assembled it upside down. After putting the top finial screw through the arched pieces (do it tightly) I turned it upside down and placed it in a clean planter to prop it in place.I then stuffed pillows to help it stay even further.
2) I assembled one level at time...sticking in 4 straight bars and then adding a ring.
3) I then put the bolts in opposite of each other...so bolting it in at 12 and 6, then 3 and 9 (as in the face of a clock). These steps helped to hold it in place as well as turning it around in the planter to help move it freely. Repeat each level until completed and turn right side up.
4) DO NOT tighten every bolt as you go. Just screw it together enough to hold it together. With the exception of the top finial that you did first, tighten everything at the end! Then you can bend and torque the finished product if anything looks wonky.
After all of that, I am pretty happy with the result! Love how tall they are and I plan on them being covered with gorgeous flowers anyway!. Angela. Glenmoore, PA. 2022-04-10 17:07:59
