It has a slightly distressed finish but the texture is smooth. The carving under the glass is gorgeous as well. It also is really good at hiding dust and dog hair. Cleaning is a breeze also-- just a damp cloth on the wood and glass cleaner on the class. It is a hit with all my friends and family.
